Griesemer Earns All-State Tennis Honors
The Lady Irish Tennis Team wrapped up another great season in October. The team finished the 2nd undefeated regular season in a row going 13-0 and getting the #1 Seed in Class 2, District 5. The Lady Irish defeated Camdenton and Branson to win the District and advance in the State tournament before losing in the Sectional Round to the eventual State Champion (Barstow).
We are so proud of the team's many team achievements including back to back undefeated regular seasons, Conference Championships, Republic Invitational Championships, and District Championships.
The Lady Irish were represented in the Individual State competition by Lila Griesemer in Singles and Sophie Lee/Bella Passanise in Doubles.
Lee and Passanise won their opening round match before falling to MICDS and to Branson in their next two matches. They put in a great effort just getting edged out by Branson in their Final Match.
Griesemer regrouped after losing her 1st Round Match in a heart-wrenching tie-breaker. She won her 2nd and 3rd Matches to advance to the Medal Round. She avenged her 1st Round loss by winning 7th Place in Class 2 in a rematch from her first round.
Griesemer finishes her career as one of the most decorated girls tennis players in Irish history with a career record of 138 wins and only 28 losses. As a freshman, she earned the Big-8 Doubles Team of the year honors with her partner, Elizabeth Tynes. She earned Conference Player of the Year as a sophomore, junior and a senior and was Reserve Champion in Districts as a sophomore and junior before taking the District Championships as a senior. Griesemer placed 6th at state as a junior and 7th in her final season. Griesemer was named the Springfield Sports Commission Girls Tennis Player of the Year in 2023.
