Softball Standouts Recognized on All-District and All-Conference Teams

SPRINGFIELD, MO -- Four Springfield Catholic softball players were honored with postseason awards after completing successful spring efforts in 2022. All four players -- Brooklyn Barnes, Katie Galligos, Larissa Holland and Shelby Kindhart -- earned All-Big 8 Conference and All-District distinction this season.

Barnes completed her junior season with 64 strikeouts in 73.2 innings of work in the circle to earn first-team All-District honor and second-team all-conference laurels. She also threw 11 complete games and in her 15 starts and had a 66-percent strike ratio. On the offensive side, she registered a team-high four doubles and was second on the squad with 10 RBI and 20 assists.

Galligos was a second-team All-District pick, while she earned honorable mention All-Big 8 honors for the second year in a row. The sophomore catcher hit .341 while leading the Irish offense in at-bats (41), runs (15), hits (14), RBI (14) and total bases (16).

Holland, a junior infielder, led the team with a .419 batting average which earned her first-team All-Big 8 honors as well as second-team All-District accolades. She was also second on the squad in on-base percentage (.525) and hits (13) while sharing the team lead in steals with four.

Kindhart became the program's first two-time All-District player after she landed second-team laurels in Class 2 while tacking on her second-team All-Big 8 honor. She also joins Galligos as a two-time all-conference honoree. The senior set a club record with a .583 on-base percentage and paced the team with 16 walks as the squad's primary centerfielder.

The coaching staff also recognized its season award winners with Galligos earning Team MVP and Offensive MVP honors, while Barnes snagged Defensive MVP recognition, and Holland was named as the team's Most-Improved Player. Sophomore outfielder Caroline Nelson earned the team's Newcomer of the Year distinction, while the program's first seniors since the program was reinstated -- Kindhart and Madison Rues -- were honored for their contributions to the program.
