Softball Girls Snag Hollister on Senior Night

SPRINGFIELD, MO -- Emily Wieberg and Brooklyn Barnes paced a nine-hit attack by Springfield Catholic to turn back visiting Hollister, 9-3, on Monday night. Both players collected two hits apiece in the victory with Wieberg smacking two doubles and Barnes recording a double and three RBI for the team's fifth win of the season.

Barnes also picked up the win in the circle, striking out five and walking just two in a complete-game effort.

The game also marked the program's first senior night as program pioneers Madison Rues and Shelby Kindhart were honored in pregame ceremonies. Kindhart drove in a run, while Rues walked twice and scored a run to contribute to the victory.

SCHS also got big efforts from Caroline Nelson, Hannah Holum and Larissa Holland who drove in runs, including a double by Holum. Katie Galligos, Makenna Phipps, Hannah Lee and Sarah Stokes also scored runs to help the Irish sweep the season series from Hollister.

A three-run second helped Catholic overcome an early 2-0 deficit. Nelson and Wieberg drove in key runs in the inning, while Phipps reached on a two-out error to score Wieberg and put the home club ahead for good.
