Lady Irish Top No. 5 Ranked Forsyth

FORSYTH, MO -- A six-run rally in the top of the sixth catapulted the Springfield Catholic softball team to a thrilling 14-12 win at Forsyth on Monday.

Forsyth came into the game ranked No. 5 in the state in Class 2.

The Irish overcame an early 5-0 deficit to lead 6-5 after four-and-a-half innings. The Panthers recaptured the lead briefly with a three-run fifth before SCHS snagged the lead for good in the sixth. Patience was the key in getting to the Forsyth bullpen as SCHS milked six walks and a pair of hit batsmen to spark the game-winning rally.

Katie Galligos went 2-for-3 with three runs to lead Catholic, while Shelby Kindhart walked three times and scored four runs. Madison Rues drove in three runs, including her clutch single in the top of the seventh that plated Kindhart and gave the Irish a key insurance run in the final frame.

Brooklyn Barnes and Sarah Stokes also drove in two runs apiece for SCHS, while Caroline Nelson, Carleigh Russell and Larissa Holland also had RBI.

Makenna Phipps ended the game with a stellar play at shortstop to rob Forsyth of a base hit and secure SCHS' first-ever win over a ranked foe.

Catholic also set a club high-water mark for walks, collecting 15 free passes on the day.

Barnes collected the win, striking out five in a complete-game performance.
