WHEATLAND, MO -- Brooklyn Barnes went the distance, allowed just two hits and struck out eight to help lead Springfield Catholic to an 11-1 win over Wheatland in the softball season opener for the Lady Irish on Monday.
Eight different players collected hits for Catholic with Shelby Kindhart, Madison Rues, Sarah Stokes and Carleigh Russell driving in two runs apiece, while Caroline Nelson scored three runs.
The Irish scored runs in all but one inning, putting Wheatland out of reach with a four-run rally in the third.
