Irish Cross Country Teams Advance to State

Both Irish XC teams traveled to Lamar to compete in the Class 3 District 2 Championship race with an opportunity to advance to the State Championship in Columbia a week later.  In the cold and rain, the boys raced to a second-place finish behind eventual Class 3 state runner-up El Dorado and easily advanced while the girls grabbed the final qualifying team spot (4th overall); both teams advancing marked the first time since 2015 that Catholic traveled to the state meet with both squads. The top four teams advance to the 16 team State Championship.

The boys outraced host Lamar by 10 points and Strafford by 35 points. The girls finished a point behind Clever but 10 ahead of Fair Grove. Catholic was aided by the return of freshman Gabe Auzias de Turenne (17:49)  who placed 27th overall and was Catholic's fourth finisher.  The Irish were again led by freshman Kyle Hathcock (17:33) who placed 10th overall and was a Second-Team All-District performer. Clayton Eck and Parker Foster were Third-Team All-District Runners. Rocco Palazzolo (18:11), Gavin Pyck (19:41) and Chris Todd (19:57) were Catholics final finishers.

Katie Galligos (21:20) led the Irish girls with a 12th place (2nd team all-district) finish while Elliana Lygrisse (24th, 21:52), Kate Hull (32nd, 22:23.73), Kaya McClanahan (33rd, 22:23.82), Macie Kelly (35th, 22:33:09), Mary Sharp and Elizabeth Fairchild were the Lady Irish's other finishers.
