Sanders shines in match against Monett

MONETT, MO--The Irish traveled to Monett on Thursday to take on the team that ended their 2017 campaign. This highly anticipated match was reflected by the recent Ozarks Sports Zone Power Rankings, adding even more hype to this rivalry. Both schools came into this match state-ranked. Catholic earning the #1 ranking and Monett as #10 in MSHSAA Class 2. The Ozone had the two teams #1 and #2 in their power rankings and Catholic showed the area that their #1 ranking was well deserved.

From the opening touch, Catholic was the more aggressive squad. Whether on the ground or in the air, the Irish dominated 50-50 balls in the first half. Senior Hunter Skornia broke through on the far left side and fired a long crosser to the far right corner of the penalty box. Sanders was waiting and made quick work to put the Irish up 1-0.

Calvin Sanders scored all four goals and the Irish "Iron Curtain" shut out the talented Monett team that has scored at least 2 goals in all of their 10 matches.

Could this result be pay back from district 2017 as suggested? I think not. Catholic just came out to prove their dominance taking care of business as they move to the next match.

The 10-1 Fighting Irish look forward to Carl Junction next Wednesday, September 26th.
