Irish "Walkers" lead golf team to a strong start

SPRINGFIELD, MO -- The Irish golf team is off to a strong 2019 campaign thanks in part to their pair of "Walkers". Walker Serrano and Walker Tynes are leading the team in their third year in the program after strong Sophomore seasons that culminated in trips to the MSHSAA 3A State Championships.

The teammates have also shared in medalist honors in the first two tournaments of the season. Walker Serrano won the SPS Invitational on Tuesday at Millwood Golf & Raquet Club and Walker Tynes won the MSU Relays today at Bill & Payne Stewart Golf Course. Serrano's finish came after a round of 69 (-2) on the cold April day. His round included one eagle and three birdies and helped the Irish team take 2nd overall in the 12 team tournament.

Today it was Tynes's turn, firing a 73 (+3) at the MSU Relays, leading the Irish to an overall team title. This tournament is the largest tournament of the season hosting 25 teams from throughout the area. Walker Tynes' round was the low out of 118 golfers and Serrano backed up his round with a 76 (+6); good for a top 5 finish. Junior Dane Pucket carded a 77 (+7) and newcomers Joe Muenks and Calvin Sanders shot an 84 and 92.

The Irish will travel to Silo Ridge in Bolivar next Monday.
