Irish move to 5-1 with strong defensive effort against Aurora

SPRINGFIELD, MO--The Irish advanced to their 6th consecutive Big 8 game against the Houn Dawgs of Aurora. Aurora came into the contest at 2-3 but the record was a bit misleading with their 3 losses all coming to State-ranked oppenents (Cassville, Lamar & Mt. Vernon). The Irish would prove to be worthy of the company and went to work quickly in the 1st quarter. The defense set the tone by limiting the Dawgs to 7 yards in their first two possessions. The offense would  get to work, chipping away with a balanced running attack. Senior Adrian Coulter ran wild on the Dawgs, piling up 124 yards on six carries in the first quarter alone. Tyson Riley would convert on two runs of 6 and 5 yards to give the Irish a 14-0 lead.

The defense would continue their pressure holding the Aurora offense to only 3 yards from scrimmage in the second quarter. Junior Kye Alms ended the half with an 11-yard sack of the Aurora's Jay Lee.

The Irish would continue to move the ball, taking the 2nd half opening kickoff and driving 65-yards on seven plays. The drive was finished with a Nick Crites run from 6-yards. Irish up 28-0. The Dawgs would answer with their only scoring drive of the night. Jay Lee connected on a 35-yard pass to Kaden Clark.

On the very next series the Irish would answer. Tyson Riley found Michael Manzardo with a 40-yard pass that seemed to be in the air for minutes.

The rest of the second half would be a blur and the Irish moved to 5-1 on the season. The team will travel to Rogersville in week 7.
